50 illegal immigrants, 10 smugglers arrested in Arizona

    Posted 13m ago

PHOENIX (AP) — Arizona authorities say they arrested 10 human smugglers and rescued 50 illegal immigrants held in drop houses in Phoenix in two separate incidents this week.

Detectives from the Illegal Immigration Prevention and Apprehension Co-op Team made the first arrests Tuesday after a three-month investigation into a human smuggling organization by the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

Authorities say three suspected coyotes were taken into custody from a drop house, and 12 Mexican immigrants being held against their will were rescued.

On Wednesday, 45 people were found in a Phoenix home. The Department of Public Safety says seven were identified as suspected human smugglers and the remaining 38 were illegal immigrants from Mexico.

All 50 suspected illegal immigrants were turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials.

AZ. DPS investigations lead to arrests of 10 human smugglers

Authorities arrested 10 human smugglers and rescued 50 immigrants held against their will in two separate Phoenix investigations this week.

Detectives from the Illegal Immigration Prevention and Apprehension Co-op Team made the first arrests Tuesday after a three-month investigation into a human smuggling organization, according to a statement by the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

Detectives had the home on 56th Drive under surveillance after gaining intelligence information from four other human smuggling investigations.

When detectives knocked on the door, one person fled out the back of the house and was immediately caught by detectives, according to DPS. Later, 14 others exited the house.

Three men, Enrique Velasquez, Alberto Cabera, and Carina Quintana, were arrested in connection with the criminal human smuggling operation. The other 12 were Mexican immigrants who had been held against their will, DPS said.

The three men were taken to the Maricopa County Fourth Avenue Jail and may be charged with human smuggling, forgery and aggravated deported felon.

On Wednesday, Phoenix Police received a 9-1-1 call that people were being held against their will inside a home. Officers knocked on the door of the suspected home on 86th Lane in Phoenix and people began to flee. They were immediately caught, DPS said.

Officers entered the home and found a total of 45 people inside, according to a DPS statement. Seven were identified as suspects, the remaining 38 were immigrants from Mexico.

Windows of the three-bedroom home had been fortified to prevent the immigrants from escaping.

Preliminary interviews with the immigrants revealed they were brought into the home in groups over the last few days, DPS said. Officers described the overall health of the immigrants as fair.

Detectives were in the process of searching the home with a warrant Thursday.

The seven suspects will be interviewed and then booked into the Fourth Avenue Jail on suspicion of human smuggling and operating a criminal conspiracy.

It is unknown when any of the immigrants crossed the border.

All of the immigrants were turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

If this arrest netted this many illegal aliens I wonder how many more have escaped detection and apprehension. Border Patrol tells us thousands illegally cross the wide open border every week while Obama cuts Border Patrol Personnel numbers and Napolitano guts other physical border security measures and interior enforcement. So much for Obama's phony assertions that health care will be deficit neutral and the deficit and debt will be cut. Pure fantasy and BS like this illegal alien hugging administration.
There is no freedom without the law. Remember our veterans whose sacrifices allow us to live in freedom.

We're being invaded (what else would you call it?) and our government refuses to put the military on that border!
