Nine people in the U.S. illegally are now in U.S. Customs and Border Protection custody.

Tuesday evening, the agency’s New Orleans Sector attempted to stop a 2001 Toyota along I-20 near the Filmore/Alton exit in Bossier Parish. Around 10 illegal aliens were in the SUV, and they all took off running into a woode when the vehicle was pulled over on Highway 157.

“We understand the concern that our residents have regarding the situation, but we have no reason to believe these individuals are dangerous, and the ones we’ve brought into custody have been without incident,” said Bossier Sheriff Julian Whittington. “The others may have already fled the area, but our deputies will continue to patrol and check on residents in the area to keep folks safe.”

According to information provided by Border Patrol Public Affairs Officer Rob Brisley, an agent arrested two people shortly after the stop. Bossier sheriff’s deputies captured six more, and one man was located this morning near the Pilot Travel Center. They’re now in Border Patrol custody.

No injuries were reported and the incident remains under investigation. The CBP New Orleans Sector asks that “if you see something, say something” by reporting suspicious activity. Call the toll-free telephone number at 1-866-50-PROTECT (507-7683).
