La Raza threatens to cancel convention in KC, cites controversial park board appointee
    By DEANN SMITH
    The Kansas City Star
The nation’s largest Hispanic rights group is warning it may cancel its 2009 convention here because of a controversial Kansas City park board member.

The head of the National Council of La Raza said Thursday that the organization is already looking at several other cities because of the appointment of Frances Semler.

Meanwhile, Kansas City officials have heard that the NAACP might be reconsidering its 2010 convention here, although no one on Thursday said they had heard directly from the national organization.

Losing the two national conventions would cost the local economy $15 million plus the incalculable hit the city’s image would take, said officials, who added that they are working hard to prevent it.

“Hopefully we can work it out,â€

Why would Ms.Murguia be upset about a Minuteman park board member? She said to Lou Dobbs that her organization is against illegal immigration one of the last times it was on his show.
Also how do you like her ethnocentric organization using monetary clout to dictate political appointees, sounds like a pattern we should watch.
If she wants to have a convention in a town that supports illegals and hispanics why not LA?
I think this is the razas newest trick and it needs to be nipped in the bud.As for the concern over how and who the towns appoint being dictated by ethnocentric groups this is a major problem that needs to be stopped IMMEDIATELY.

Yup, it's all about money, instead of a person's right to brlieve in the laws of the land. Another town bending over for the OBL.

We can't sit back and watch a group like "The Race" pick and choose our
polical figures based on her association with The Minutmen. I suggest we innundate the Kansas City Council with e-mails supporting her.

It would seem that the Mayor is standing by her. It looks like her biggest opposition is coming from another council member, Beth Gottstein, who's part of the Coalition of Hispanic Organizations.

    Here's the Mayor's email address: joe_miller@kcmo.org

Apperently you have to e-mail Beth Gotttstien (who is for a more "transparent" government" through her assistant:

Maybe they could hold their rally in a South American country, where they would be closer to their constituents.
