Third Wisconsin Mexican citizen sentenced on drug charges

Today, July 22, 2013, John W. Vaudreuil, United States Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin, announced that Jose Luis Castillo-Madrigal, 35, a Mexican citizen living in Beloit, Wisconsin, was sentenced on Friday, by U.S. District Judge Barbara Crabb to 54 months in prison for conspiracy to possess marijuana with intent to distribute and to distribute marijuana. Madrigal conspired with others to to pick-up, sell and redistribute marijuana and cocaine, he also threatened people who owed money and collected property from people when they did not pay. He pleaded guilty on May, 15, 2013.

Omar Velazquez, 21, a citizen of Mexico who had been living in Janesville, Wisconsin, his father and mother, Emeterio Velazquez, 50, and Rosalina Velazquez, along with Nicolas Covarrubias, 43, of Rockford, Ill.,and Ruperto Ruiz, conspired with Jose Luis Castillo-Madrigal to sell marijuana and cocaine in the Beloit and Rockford areas. Omar Velazquez, was sentenced to 10 years in prison by U.S. District Judge Barbara Crabb in February, 2013 after the court found him guilty of purchasing and delivery of 15 to 50 kilograms of cocaine and for guns that were found during a search of his residence. Covarrubias was also sentenced to 10 years in prison. This conspiracy took place from March 2012 to May 21, 2012.
