CORPUS CHRISTI - A Corpus Christi man who had been on the run from U.S. Marshals is now headed to federal prison for 15 years.

Ubaldo Ramirez, 31, is an illegal immigrant from Mexico who was wanted for failing to appear in court on drug possession and evading arrest charges.

He was sentenced today for being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm.

Last April, Ramirez evaded marshals who spotted him driving near the area of S. Staples and Williams Drive. He apparently spotted officers and bailed out of the vehicle, leaving his wife behind in the car.

His efforts proved fruitless as the marshals eventually tracked him down again. Prosecutors say he had drugs and a firearm with him when arrested.

Ramirez will be deported back to Mexico after serving the full 15 years of his sentence.
