Laredo Sector Border Patrol Renders Aid to Detainee in Distress

LAREDO, Texas – U.S. Border Patrol agents from the Laredo South Station acted quickly as they rendered aid to an arrested individual who showed signs of medical distress near the Juarez-Lincoln Port of Entry (POE I) in downtown Laredo.
The incident occurred during the late evening of June 30, when three individuals attempted to enter the United States illegally under POE I. As LRS agents responded to intercept the group, the individuals turned and ran back to the river, two of them returning to Mexico.
One of the individuals, later determined to be a Mexican national illegally in the U.S., collapsed while running from the agents. The agents assessed that the individual was having a hard time breathing and requested the assistance of a Border Patrol Emergency Medical Technician (BP EMT). The BP EMT arrived on scene and began attending to the man in distress. Laredo Fire Department Emergency Medical Services arrived on scene and subsequently transported the individual to a local hospital.
Agents accompanied the individual to the hospital where he was diagnosed as suffering from kidney complications. He remains in Border Patrol custody pending treatment and medical clearance. Even with the presence of the COVID-19 pandemic, U.S. Border Patrol agents of the Laredo Sector continue to render aid to those in need, especially individuals in their custody.
