In brief: Las Crucen, 19, arrested in smuggling of Mexicans

    Times staff reports

A 19-year-old Las Cruces man was arrested in connection with the smuggling of 53 Mexican citizens, including a 1-year-old baby, Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials said.

Officials said Mario Rolando Hernández Cervantes, a Mexican citizen himself, charged the undocumented immigrants $2,000 each to be smuggled into the country.

The immigrants, some of whom had previously been deported from the United States, are 39 men, seven women and seven children, ages 1 to 16, from the Mexican states of Guanajuato and Michoacan. Officials said Hernández was linked with major smuggling networks in Southern Mexico.

More reasons to keep them out!

He should be fined at least that much and put to work making license plates for a few years.

I disagree. I think he should be sent back across the border where he came from and told that if he ever sets foot in the USA again he will find himself on death row in TX where they do express executions. The illegals who were caught and deported were lucky, in many ways. Some have died in the desert where they were left by "coyotes." Even the Mexican comic book that explains to Mexican nationals how to sneak across the border warns against coyotes.
