DALLAS, June 24 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Representing more than 5,000 Latino elected officials and 25 million voters nationwide, delegates to the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials (NALEO) issued a call to action for a national day of advocacy on July 19 in Washington, D.C., to support comprehensive immigration reform.

The 23rd Annual NALEO Conference in Dallas is the first major gathering of Latino leaders since the House and Senate passed competing immigration bills. The agreement to head to Washington comes the same week House Republicans promised to hold immigration hearings across the country. Latino elected officials -- from both parties -- made the commitment to walk the halls of Congress during a luncheon discussion with five Members of Congress and 500 participants at the NALEO Conference.

"The issue of immigration has energized and united Latino leaders across the country," said NALEO Board President John Bueno. "We represent millions of Americans from two parties and countless ethnicities who support hard-working immigrant families. Congress needs to listen to their voices and pass real immigration reform."

On July 19, Latino leaders from across the nation will make their voices heard on Capitol Hill as advocates for immigration reform. Today, delegates to the NALEO conference in Dallas signed individual pledge cards to join the DC effort next month. Arturo Vargas, executive director of NALEO said, "NALEO's commitment to this effort will enable several hundred Latino leaders to stand at the forefront of our national policy discussion on immigration reform." The Congressional Hispanic Caucus and Congressman Luis Gutierrez have agreed to partner with NALEO on this critical issue.

Cross-party unity on comprehensive immigration has been a major theme of the NALEO Conference this week. Vargas emphasized leaders from both parties are taking part in the action day next month. Conference delegates have been meeting under the theme, "We are America." In addition to the immigration debate, NALEO delegates have taken up the issue of participation. The three-day conference agenda has included several panels on how Latinos leaders can help their communities achieve the American dream by advocating for increased access to healthcare, capital and education.

The Latino Business Community is trying to make July 19th, 2006 another day of protest in Washington, DC as they try to force OUR ELECTED OFFICIALS to pass a WRONG AMNESTY.

To counter this move, I am announcing the Anti-Illegal Day in Washington, DC on July 19th, 2006. All you have to do to be a part of this great day, is contact your elected officials in Washington, DC to let them know you OPPOSE Amnesty for criminals, let them know that you want true border security. Start spreading the word to TRUE AMERICANS by emailing this post to friends, putting it on your blogs, or bringing it up on other messages boards.

Do not let Latino's seize control of our Immigration Policies, do not let Latino's shape and control any reform that does get passed in Washington, DC. Policies on this IMPORTANT issues should not be passed to PANDER to one special interest group.

Let our voices drown out the voices of a group who's primary goal is Amnesty for 12-15 million illegals...they can go to Washington, DC and have their talks, but let our voices out number theirs 10-1.
Keep the spirit of a child alive in your heart, and you can still spy the shadow of a unicorn when walking through the woods.
