From Santa Cruz Sentinel, Santa Cruz, CA

SANTA CRUZ -- Jurors on Thursday found a convicted sex offender guilty of molesting a 9-year-old girl whose family he lived with. He faces a 106-year prison sentence.

Marlon Ontiveros Solis could spend the rest of his life in prison because of a sex crime conviction in 1994, according to the District Attorney's Office. He was convicted of raping a 14-year-old boy in Modesto. Solis served six years in prison and upon his release was deported.

When Solis returned to the United States, he used someone else's name to obtain an ID and didn't register as a sex offender, as required due to the prior conviction, according to prosecutor Ross Taylor.

The Watsonville family with whom Solis was staying had no knowledge of his past, Taylor said.

One night in November 2006, he snuck into the girl's bedroom while she was asleep and began fondling her, according to the District Attorney's Office. He tried to get her to come to his room and when she refused, he continue to touch her, Taylor said. She told him to stop, but instead he climbed onto her bed -- the top bunk -- and tried to take her clothes off.

The girl cried, which alerted her mother, who had gotten up to get milk for an infant sibling of the girl. The mother opened the bedroom door, saw Solis on her daughter's bed and told him to get down, Taylor said. Solis refused and said he was consoling the girl because she was crying, Taylor said.

The mother woke her husband and they got the

The parents threw out Solis and called 911. Watsonville police arrested him in the parking lot of the apartment complex.

"It was a very, very scary experience for the little 9-year-old," Taylor said.

Both the girl, who is now 11, and Solis testified at the trial, which lasted about a week. Solis denied committing both the molestation in Watsonville and the rape in Modesto, according to the District Attorney's Office. His defense attorney, Art Dudley, plans to appeal the conviction.

"There's some significant evidentiary issues," he said.

Solis will be sentenced by Judge Paul Marigonda on June 2.

Does anyone really believe that illegal aliens would voluntarily register as sex offenders?

All of these criminals have several id's. IMO its time to think about branding these animals so they cant keep coming into our country committing rapes and molestations against our children.

This does not surprise me. We had the same thing not that long ago in South Florida.
