    — OTTUMWA — An Iowa advocacy group hopes to prevent local authorities from signing agreements with Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
    In a press release to select Spanish-language newspapers and obtained by the Courier, Armando Villareal, administrator of the Iowa Division of Latino Affairs, said the 287(g) agreement creates an “environment of mistrust.â€

    It’d be nice if that turned out to be true, said Villareal, but in other states, people have been targeted and pulled over based on their appearance while authorities point to ICE agreements.
