Lawsuit filed on ballot description
Minuteman Project founder Jim Gilchrist said Tuesday that he filed a lawsuit against Secretary of State Bruce McPherson and Orange County Registrar of Voters Steve Rodermund for refusing to print the group under his name on the 48th District special-election ballot.
The suit was filed in Sacramento County Superior Court.
McPherson disallowed the ballot designation, saying state law bans anything commercial from being under a candidate's name. Gilchrist, an American Independent Party candidate, said leading that group is his "vocation" and should be allowed.
The secretary also ruled that Republican candidate Ed Suppe could not put "veteran" under his name.
