SEATTLE (AP) - Prosecutors filed felony charges against seven people in what one official described as the worst case of voter registration fraud in state history.

Meanwhile, in a settlement announced Thursday, the organization they worked for agreed to keep a better eye on its employees and pay $25,000 to defray costs of the investigation.

The seven workers submitted about 1,800 false registration cards last fall on behalf of Association of Community Organizations for Reform, which had hired them at $8 an hour to sign up people to vote, charging documents filed in Superior Court show.

Secretary of State Sam Reed said at a news conference it was Washington state's most serious instance of voter registration fraud.

"This was an act of vandalism upon the voter rolls of King County," said Dan Satterberg, interim King County prosecutor.

Officials stressed that the defendants were motivated by financial gain rather than the desire to toy with the outcome of the election. They said ACORN was partly a victim because it paid for voter-registration work that was never performed.

But in interviews with Sheriff's Detective Chris Johnson, several defendants - while admitting they forged the forms - insisted they had been told ACORN would close their office in Tacoma if they did not improve their numbers, Johnson wrote in a probable cause statement.

One said another worker in the office told him "do what you have to do" to turn in more cards.

ACORN's oversight of the workers was virtually nonexistent, Satterberg said.

"Voter registration is a vital part of our work to increase civic participation," said John Jones, president of Washington ACORN. "We need to continue to do that work, and do all that we can to make sure that no one is trying to pull a fast one on us."

As part of the settlement, ACORN agreed to make improvements in its management, training and oversight of suspect voter registrations throughout the state.

The organization has run voter registration drives across the country, with allegations of fraudulent registrations surfacing in several states, including Pennsylvania, Ohio, Missouri and Colorado in recent years.

The Washington state probe began after King County election workers in October spotted apparently forged voter-registration cards among about 1,800 that were turned in by ACORN. The cards arrived a day after they were due for the November election.

Investigators determined that no votes were cast from the fraudulent voter registrations.

Charging papers said that in many cases, the ACORN workers flipped through phone books or baby-name books, picking names from one page and addresses from another.

None of the defendants could immediately be reached for comment. Some had unlisted phone numbers or numbers that had been changed, while others did not return messages seeking comment.

Dan Donohoe, a spokesman for the King County prosecutor's office, said he did not know whether any of the defendants had obtained attorneys. The defendants are:

Tina Marie Johnson, 24, and Jayson Lee Woods, 19, who each face eight counts of providing false information on a voter registration.

Clifton Eugene Mitchell, 44, the political organizer in the Tacoma ACORN office at the time of the alleged wrongdoing, and Ryan Olson, 28, who each face two counts of the same charge.

Robert Greene, 56, and Kendra Thill, 18, who face one count apiece.

Brianna Debwa, 35, the quality control specialist in the office, who faces one count of providing false information on a registration and one count of making false statements to a public official.

30 days prior to election so they can slip votes in by people that should not be on the rolls because or errors under pressure to process those cards before election day. They know what they are doing and why they are doing it. Otherwise, why wait until the last minute to register voters?

Nancy Pelosi Culture Of Corruption Now Includes Vote Fraud

Democrats have a long and storied history of using voter fraud to steal elections from the American people.

From the 1962 presidential election in which Mayor Richard Daley of Chicago miraculously brought deceased voters back to life long enough to vote for John F. Kennedy, to the illegal aliens that gifted Democrat Loretta Sanchez with a U.S. House Seat in California in 1996, fraud has been an essential weapon in the liberal bag of electoral tricks.

In fact, without a vigorous campaign of voter fraud, Democrats would fail miserably in most elections. Which is why the party aggressively recruits votes from among the dead, non-citizens, and felons. The old saying that goes "Vote Early and Often!" originated with Democrats who value power more than principle.

But under the leadership of Speaker Nancy Pelosi, the Democrat party has taken political corruption to a new low. The party now practices fraud on the floor of the U.S. House.

This chicanery came to light Thursday evening during a vote on a GOP amendment that would have banned housing assistance and food stamps for illegal aliens.

When the GOP amendment apparently passed 215-213, leftist thugs in charge of the House reached into their bag of tricks and decided that fraud was the only way to win the day.

Rep. Michael R. McNulty (D-N.Y.) thus took over the fraud proceedings and gaveled close the vote on a standard procedural measure with the outcome still in doubt. Shortly thereafter, McNulty and other Democrat vipers announced that the GOP amendment had failed.

Once again, the Democrat party used blatant fraud to circumvent democracy and to advance the interests of illegal aliens over those of the American people.

To their credit, about 100 Republican House members decided that the fascist tactics practiced by the majority were completely intolerable, so those members did the responsible and honorable thing: They walked off the floor of the House in protest.

While Nancy Pelosi is not generally known for her intellectual acumen, manipulating the vote of elected members of congress in order to advance the liberal agenda is unprecedented. Such stupidity and arrogance is unimaginable, and should be cause for the immediate removal of Pelosi and other conniving majority leaders from office.

Remember it was Nancy Pelosi who charged that Republicans had established a culture of corruption that was threatening to destroy the U.S. House, the nation, and the world, provided that global warming did not beat those corrupt GOP crooks to the punch.

It was she who promised to "drain the swamp" if a Democrat majority were elected, and to lead the House in a new, more righteous direction.

Unfortunately for America, Pelosi and the Democrats achieved majority status last November, and since January, Speaker Pelosi has lead the "people's house" in an undeclared war on integrity and ethics.

Just how naive and shallow is Speaker Pelosi? Consider her comment about the voting incident in the House:

"They've just been deluged by the success of the Democrats on behalf of the American people," Pelosi said, in charging the Republicans with blatant obstructionism.

Where in the hell does Speaker Pelosi find "success" by the Democrats?

In a recent poll, the American people gives congress a 3% approval rating for their performance on the war in Iraq, and equally dismal ratings overall.

In fact, the Democrat Congress has a lower approval rating than President George W. Bush!

Is that what this muddle-brained leftist from San Francisco calls "success"?
