Cantor: Amnesty For DREAMers Is 'Biblical'

Majority Leader Eric Cantor offered a new explanation for why he supports granting amnesty to individuals brought into the country illegally as minors, often called “DREAMers” in reference to the “DREAM Act.”

It's “Biblical,” he said in a local radio interview.

“I’ve always said that there’s a Biblical root and a tradition in this country that says we don’t hold children liable for their parents’ acts and when you have kids who may have been brought here let’s say at 2 months old unbeknownst to them and they’ve been here all their lives and they want to serve in our military, my position has been I agree with that principle,” he said. “They should be allowed to serve in our military and be allowed to become part of this country as a citizen, but not their parents. Not the ones who committed the illegal act. So this is the difficulty,” Cantor said this week on The John Fredericks Show.

Cantor went on say that Obama’s intransigence is the reason there has not yet been immigration reform.

“The president has said he doesn’t want to pursue this type of a first step approach he doesn't want to pursue a path that would say let’s do the things we can agree on and insist instead on a blanket amnesty bill,” the Virginia Republican said. “And I’m opposed to that and as long as the president says my way or the highway all or nothing, we can’t get anything done.”

Cantor also spoke about his opposition to the Senate “Gang of Eight” bill.

“I’ve always opposed Harry Reid and Barack Obama’s amnesty bill coming out of the Senate,” he said.

“The reason it is not coming up in the House is I have not scheduled it to come to the floor of the House because we’re not going to take that amnesty bill up. I’ve always said that we are a country of immigrants, but we are a country of laws,” he said, adding there needs to be better enforcement of the law, specifically at the nation’s borders.

Cantor, who is facing a primary challenge, has raised eye brows in recent weeks for distributing mailers declaring him to be a “conservative Republican” who is “stopping the Obama Reid Plan to give illegal aliens amnesty” while at the same time pushing amnesty for the children of illegal immigrants and supporting a measure that would allow so-called DREAMers to enlist in the military and earn citizenship.

In recent years, Evangelical Christians have shown greater openness to immigration reform. Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL), the author of the DREAM Act, visited Wheaton College, IL – the so-called “Harvard of Christian schools” – last year to push for the Gang of Eight bill, for example.

However, some Christians have pushed back against the notion that the Bible's passages on immigration go anywhere near requiring amnesty for people who entered the country illegally.

"Religious lobbyists for this approach often portray their political cause as the clear Gospel way. But the Bible offers no specific legislative guidance on immigration law, about which people of faith may disagree,” Mark Tooley, President of the Institute on Religion and Democracy, recently told Breitbart News.

Cantor voted against the DREAM Act in 2010.

The only thing it says in the bible about this matter is it says that God will hold some children accountable for the sins of their fathers down to the 3rd generations.

Eric Cantor is a liar and a supporter of amnesty for the deadly and costly illegal alien invasion of America.

And now he has violated the warning found at the end of Revelations NOT to add to or take anything away from the bible's words!!!

Also, Eric Cantor is Jewish so he must not be referring to anything in the New Testament and should be quoting the Torah instead of the Bible!

    What a lying snake!

Evangelicals Criticize Cantor's Claim Dream Act is Biblical

by Michael Patrick Leahy 5 Jun 2014, 10:27 AM PDT
    breitbart

On Wednesday two prominent Evangelical Christians criticized House Majority Leader Eric Cantor's (R-VA) assertion that the Dream Act, which would grant citizenship to the children of illegal aliens, is "biblical."

Cantor, who has received criticism for his recent claims that he opposes amnesty for illegal aliens from long-shot challenger David Brat, made the remarks Monday on the John Fredricks radio program.

"Declaring something biblical is to say it's a clear unequivocal teaching," Mark Tooley, President of the Institute on Religion and Democracy, told Breitbart News on Wednesday.

"The Dream Act, like most legislation, is more complicated. No, children are not morally responsible for their parents’ transgressions. But should children benefit from their parents' transgressions? The intent might be lofty but what are the unintended consequences?" Tooley asked.

"The Bible teaches that all people are sinners," Tooley continued, "and every law extending new benefits inevitably will be exploited by some to the detriment of others. Would this law encourage some to make false claims about when and how they got to the U.S. illegally? Would it encourage additional illegal immigration? If so, who is hurt by these unintended consequences?" Tooley questioned.

"For people of faith especially," Tooley concluded, "all of these questions should be examined carefully, weighing the pluses and minuses."

"I appreciate Rep. Eric Cantor's interest in the Bible," Kelly Monroe Kullberg, editor of Finding God at Harvard and coordinator of Evangelicals for Biblical Immigration, told Breitbart News. Kullberg noted that "credible polling shows that 8 out of 10 immigrants vote for Democrats despite their escalation of our national debt, and national insecurity."

"Yes, God loves us all, immigrants and citizens. We're all invited into the kingdom of God, but that does not imply citizenship in any one particular nation," Kullberg said. "Scripture," she added, "does not teach undiscerning welcome, or injury to citizens including our vulnerable elderly with breaking healthcare systems --- the very people who've worked to pay into those systems."

"We're really discussing the future of America culturally, economically and spiritually, and whether or not we will have a 2-party system and a Republic," Kullberg added.

"Progressives like George Soros know this, hence their funding of the National Immigration Forum, the Open Society Institute, the Tides Foundation and similar liberal 501s with beneficiaries including the 'Evangelical Immigration Table,' Sojourners, La Raza, Faithful America and other pro-immigration groups with misleading names. I simply ask for biblical balance from those who quote the Bible, including its whole counsel," Kullberg concluded.

Cantor's challenger in the June 10 primary, Brat, who has a Masters in Divinity from Princeton Theological Seminary in addition to a Phd. in economics, took exception to Cantor's claim that "there's a Biblical root and a tradition in this country that says we don't hold children liable for their parents' acts and when you have kids who may have been brought here let's say at 2 months old unbeknownst to them and they've been here all their lives and they want to serve in our military, my position has been I agree with that principle."

Brat told Breitbart News on Wednesday "rights did not evolve in the Judeo-Christian tradition until about 1400 so it is hard to see how Cantor can claim that rights language, or great founding principles, which is how he referred to the rights of children all over the world whose parents make mistakes should be treated - can be considered biblical."

"It is true that rights did derive from the Judeo-Christian traditions view of freedom of conscience," Brat added, "but the specific rights Cantor refers to are not even constitutional much less biblical. James Madison was not aware of any such U.S. right for children around the world."

Rep. Eric Cantor, facing a growing grassroots revolt in his own district, has been in hiding lately. He gives few media interviews, rarely faces his own constituents, and sends out high-paid consultants to launch baseless attacks on his challenger Dave Brat. The public comments he has made defending his support DREAM Act amnesty are now being lampooned by evangelical leaders.
