    Legal immigrants vow to vote

    By The Associated Press
TULSA - Members of a local Hispanic group say they are offended by political campaigns opposing illegal immigrants and are vowing to retaliate with votes during the Nov. 7 election and beyond.

The American Dream Coalition, a pro-immigrant group, held a news conference Friday to discuss how they believe political campaigns, including recent television ads, against illegal immigrants are putting some legal immigrants on edge.

The Rev. Victor Orta said the group is spreading the word through church congregations and by other means to get out the vote in the upcoming elections.

"We are responding to an anti-immigrant attitude that is growing by leaps and bounds," said Orta, president of the group. "We are not going to be silent."

Without naming any political candidates, the group said both Republicans and Democrats are playing up the immigrant debate in their campaigns.

Orta said he worries that negative sentiment toward illegal immigrants will breed ill feelings toward all immigrants.

The American Dream Coalition says it supports comprehensive immigration reform, including securing the U.S.-Mexico border. It does not want illegal immigrants already living here to be criminalized.

The group wants to help register 5,000 young voters in the Tulsa area in time for the 2008 presidential election.

It is part of a nationwide effort by similar pro-immigrant groups to register U.S.-born children of illegal immigrants, a demographic group that is estimated to number in the millions.

"Based on my family, we will be voting differently this time around," said Julian Rodriguez, a member of the coalition. "We have been attacked."

It certainly will, Mr. Numbnut, as long as legal immigrants work to protect ILLEGAL ALIENS as you are doing.

What's difficult about understanding that phsycology?

Just a comment on this: Watch out for the anchor baby kids of the illegals. There are a LOT of anchor babies out there who are reaching the age of majority now and in the next few years.

Many will undoubtedly vote with their parents affiliations. The southwest - CA, AZ, TX are the states where anchors are heaviest in numbers but its spreading to other states too.

this is why we have to be ever active and aggressive at alerting the majority of Americans...

I guess they feel like there is no limit to the number of immigrants that can come to the U.S , Would a billion be too much ? 5 Billion ? Who is going to pay for the welfare and food stamps ? They know they can take over America and I honestly believe they will , But what then ? Not enough jobs or resources , Eliminating the anglos might help for a while But when its all over America will be just like Mexico ,so they'll be right back where they started . The only good thing out of all of this is that the people who helped them will eventually get what they deserve and their children will be "looking for a better life " but where will they Immigrate to ?

The role of legal immigants in the creation of this problem can not be understated. Many illegal immigrants are here as a result of illegal facilitation by legal immigrants. The reason that the illegals are here is due to the lesser opportunity in there own home countries caused by capital shortage there. If those legal immigrants will not invest to create opportunity for their families and for their communities who do they think will?
I support enforcement and see its lack as bad for the 3rd World as well. Remittances are now mostly spent on consumption not production assets. Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)

    Mostly Wrong

Many of the posts on this topic are off base.

Most legal immigrants I've met are opposed to illegal immigration, and resent some in the Hispanic community who claim to speak for the rest, but really don't. Check out http://www.dontspeakforme.org

There is a widespread misconception that legal Hispanic immigrants identify with illegal immigrants and generally support illegal immigration, but the reverse is generally true.

My wife and daughter are legal immigrants. They don't like illegal immigration, have never helped anyone immigrate here illegally, and no one else in her extended family has ever immigrated here illegally.
There are immigrants and there are illegal aliens. An immigrant comes here legally, obeys our laws, assimilates, and the only flags an immigrant waves is an American flag. There's no such thing as an illegal immigrant.

Lupe Moreno, great American, stops by from time to time. The IA advocates don't speak for her either.

Aiding and abetting also is against the law and many of us have made it our mission in life to throw ALL the scofflaw losers our of our country and punish those who helped them. Mexicans should stand up for themselves like grown men in their own country, instead of sneaking in here to compete with our children, demand free stuff and brag about taking over.

I agree, and some are wearing little brown berets.
