A liberal magazine which has pushed for comprehensive immigration reform noted that journalists actually outnumbered activists at last week's rallies in Washington, D.C., symbolizing how discouraged even the most diehard supporters of a pathway to citizenship are.

Those pushing for a pathway to citizenship staged various rallies last week on the National Mall, and the American Prospect noted that a "group of about a dozen supporters of immigration reform" showed up last week at an event sponsored by the Southern Border Coalition.

Organizers reportedly "laid out rows of tables covered in white cloth and adorned with banners" that said things like "Keep Families Together" and "Bridges Not Border Walls." The magazine reported that, "a few hundred yards away, several large tents contained the 'Fast for Families,' where a core group of four activists has been abstaining from food since Tuesday to protest Congress's inaction on immigration reform."

But the organizers were not joined by other activists, supporters, or demonstrators.

"With the wind blowing ripples across the Capitol reflecting pool, the air was cold, the mood somber," the Prospect wrote. "After the event, a handful of journalists, a small corps that still managed to outnumber the activists, mulled about the dry grass, but the scene was mostly empty."
