Graham censured by second local GOP
By Jordan Fabian - 01/05/10 12:50 PM ET

A second local South Carolina Republican group on Monday censured Sen. Lindsey Graham for veering too far to the left.

The Lexington County GOP issued a censure document Monday accusing Graham (R-S.C.) of supporting cap-and-trade legislation, rapping him for his vote on last year's bank bailout and for "repeatedly demonstrat[ing] contempt and belligerence towards those members of the Republican Party who support freedom."

In November, the Charleston County GOP censured Graham, saying that "in the name of bipartisanship [he] continues to weaken the Republican brand."

Graham is known for his penchant for bipartisanship. He is currently working with Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) on a compromise on climate change legislation but he has not supported the House proposal that passed last year.

The South Carolina senator, however, opposed the Democrats' healthcare reform legislation.

The censure resolution above is dated 1-4-09, which I assume is a typo and should be dated 1-4-10.

GOP leaders in SC county vote to censure Sen. Graham, the second such rebuke since November

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Republican leaders in a South Carolina county known as a GOP stronghold have voted to censure U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham for working with Democrats on immigration and climate change.

It's the second time since November that Republicans in a South Carolina county have voted to censure the GOP senator.

Lexington County Republican Party Chairman Rich Bolen said Tuesday the county's executive committee voted 13-7 to rebuke Graham following more than an hour of debate late Monday.

In November, Charleston County Republicans censured Graham over climate change legislation.

Phone and e-mail messages left with Graham's office were not immediately returned. In November, his spokesman said the senator has a solidly conservative voting record but believes politicians must work across the aisle.

Graham censured by another S.C. GOP group over bailout, immigration

    By Leroy Chapman Jr.
    The State (Columbia, S.C.)
The Lexington County Republican Party voted Monday night to censure U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham for his support of a massive federal bailout of the banking industry and for supporting a failed immigration reform bill in the U.S. Senate that would have given illegal immigrants a path to citizenship.

Both the bank bailout and immigration reform were initiated by former President George W. Bush, also a Republican.

The Lexington County GOP is the third county party in S.C. to censure Graham, a Seneca Republican elected in 2002 after U.S. Sen. Strom Thurmond retired. A censure is a formal statement of disapproval, and is rare among party operatives.

The Greenville County Republican Party censured Graham over immigration reform. The Charleston County Republican Party censured Graham over his willingness to work with Democrats. Gov. Mark Sanford is the only other high profile Republican in the recent past to get a formal rebuke from the party. Sanford, who faces 37 ethics charges over his travel and campaign spending, was censured over his admission of an extramarital affair and his secret summer disappearance to visit his Argentine lover.

Graham, who has reached across party lines in Washington on military issues and to get judges elected, has been targeted for years by conservative activists within the GOP.

It is too late to get rid of Graham...but not too late to vote out his twin...John McCain.

The next time Graham comes up for re-election then he should be voted out of office.

I am so glad this is happening. He needs to feel the heat and know that he too is about to line up in the unemployment office.

It might not be for a few years but I am hoping these Republicans have memories like an Elephant and NEVER FORGET this is a RINO!

Perhaps if his "twin" John McCain loses his Senate seat to a Conservative anti-amnesty Republican he will begin to see his future and change his RINO ways!

I doubt Graham will suddenly change his mind, but cjbl is right that he needs to feel the heat -- especially now that he is pushing amnesty with Schumer and trying to get more Republicans to go along with him.
