Arizona Congressman Paul Gosar Sponsors 10-Year Immigration Moratorium Bill

On July 23, 2021 Arizona Congressman Paul Gosar announced that he is sponsoring a bill that would impose a 10-year immigration moratorium on all immigration into the United States. Gosar made the case that this moratorium is a necessary measure to curb the current wave of migration that is rocking the southern border.

“We can’t have legal immigration when we have rampant illegal alien invaders. This is a threat to our national security and our economy and to our citizens,” Gosar declared in a statement in which he introduced HR 4643. This bill’s main goal is “to prohibit the admission of aliens to the United States for 10 years” from the date of its potential enactment.

Tom Ozimek of the Epoch Times added context to the introduction of Gosar’s bill:

The backdrop for Gosar’s initiative is the border surge, with federal immigration officials recently announcing that they had apprehended 188,829 people illegally crossing the southwest border in June, up from 180,034 in May. The figure includes more than 15,000 unaccompanied minors, over 55,000 family units, and over 117,000 single adults.

Gosar pinned the blame on the Biden administration for the recent surge in border crossings. He accused Biden’s policies for “ignoring and actively assisting the violation of our federal laws” arguing that it has “literally and figuratively opened the gates and is waving hundreds of thousands of criminals into our country.”

As Ozimek noted, Biden has already rescinded “a number of border and asylum policies implemented by the Trump administration, including overturning the Migrant Protection Protocols, which required asylum seekers to wait in Mexico while their claims were processed.”

Democrats aren’t satisfied with the current open borders insanity, however. As BLP recently reported, Senate Democrats are attempting to ram amnesty through the budget reconciliation process. It’s all a part of their plot to demographically transform the American electorate.

Prominent populist or populist-leaning politicians have brought attention to the fact that Biden’s decision to discontinue some of the Trump administration’s sensible measures such as “Remain in Mexico” has contributed to the current migration crisis.

“With the destruction of President Trump’s solid immigration enforcement, and current disregard and violation of existing federal law, Mr. Biden has unleashed the most severe border and humanitarian crisis in United States history,” Gosar argued.

Ozimek observed that immigration could be an Achilles Heel for Biden and his Democrat colleagues, especially during the 2022 midterms:

Immigration has been a weak spot for Biden, with a poll by The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research in May showing that 54 percent of Americans disapproved of his handling of the issue.

Now is not the time for Republicans to shy away from immigration restriction. If anything, they should be putting forward full-throated defenses of national sovereignty and immigration patriotism.

American voters are receptive to the message of immigration restriction and will likely reward politicians who campaign hard on these issues. Hopefully, GOP candidates get this memo.
