Tonight, in a new book, former White House Press Secretary
Scott McClellan accuses the Bush administration of misleading
Americans in the lead-up to the Iraq war and numerous other
instances. We’ll have a full report, plus:
* A new report by the International Federation of Technical and
Professional Engineers blasts the Pentagon’s decision to award
a $35 billion tanker contract to a European aerospace
consortium. The union says the government sent 44,000 jobs
overseas for a less capable and more expensive tanker.
* Gas prices are topping $4 a gallon in many parts of the
country and could go even higher. Over time, high energy costs
could have a big impact on the way we live. But there’s at
least one upside: high energy prices are reinvigorating the
rust belt.
* As drug cartel violence in Mexico continues to escalate,
reports have surfaced that some Mexican law enforcement
officials who have been killed in the violence received
training from the United States – a major blow to the joint
U.S.-Mexico effort to battle the cartels.
* Heath and Human Services Secretary Michael Leavitt recently
announced that the Food and Drug Administration will add 13
more inspector positions in communist China. But as the
egregious breaches of consumer safety continue in this country,
are a handful new positions in China enough?
* Critics of this broadcast have mocked the notion of a “NAFTA
Superhighwayâ€
