LULAC members and supporters left early Thursday morning to lobby lawmakers on immigration.

Dozens of college students boarded the bus in southeast Houston.

LULAC and local students lobbied the state legislature Thursday on immigration education bills.
They will fight several immigration-related bills, such as HB 28, which would stop children of illegal immigrants from getting state benefits.

LULAC calls the bills "devisive" and "misguided."

"A lot of us can’t get work because we’re undocumented. We can’t get scholarships because we need a social security number, we don’t get federal aid, we get state aid which is only the Pell grants. We’re not able to get many loans so our tuition is paid by us,” said Liliana Castillo one of the students who lobbied the legislature Thursday.

They want lawmakers to support current legislation that allows children of undocumented immigrants to pay in-state tuition for college.

If they're forced to pay out-of-state or international fees, the students say the price will triple, forcing many of them out of college.

American TAXPAYERS pick up the TAB.

    American TAXPAYERS are getting screwed.

Perhaps American moms and dads would prefer to put this money into their own children's education rather than supporting the children of Illegal Alien law breakers?

These children, who I'm sure are intelligent thinkers, should now go back to their parents and have a serious discussion with them in order to find out WHY their parents broke the laws and put these kids at risk?
I'd sure want to know if it were me.

Washington, DC- The League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC), our nation’s oldest and largest Hispanic civil rights organization in the country, is profoundly dismayed that the US Senate refused to pass legislation last night that would have commemorated the eightieth birthday of civil rights and Mexican-American activist Cesar Chavez. Senate Democrats had sought approval by unanimous consent; however the bill was purposefully blocked by Republican Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky to request inserted language that indicated that Cesar Chavez once led an anti-immigrant march.

Earlier in the week at a House Natural Resources Committee Hearing, the House Republicans tried a similar scheme to smear Chavez’ legacy by inviting a witness to testify against legislation introduced by Congresswoman Hilda Solis (D-CA) that would have honored the great American activist.

“It is unacceptable that politics are being used to shame the great legacy of an American, civil rights hero,” stated LULAC National President Rosa Rosales. “I cannot underscore the deep sadness and offense that I take upon hearing about this news. To completely associate Cesar Chavez, as an anti-immigrant activist is completely slanderous and insulting to his family, friends, and the entire Latino community. He rightfully deserves the greatest reverence from our country, not this slap in the face.”

The League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) is the oldest and largest Hispanic civil rights organization in the United States. LULAC advances the economic condition, educational attainment, political influence, health and civil rights of Hispanic Americans through community-based programs operating at more than 700 LULAC councils nationwide

Unreal how they can demand how our taxpayer money should be spent on people that are not suppose to be here and have no right to "our" money.
like we should have no say in the tax money taken out of our hard earned paychecks is spent. Tough the people have spoken and we are tired of it and tired of hearing you whine, so suck it up and go get your education in Mexico.
