LULAC Warns Students
April 6, 2006, 03:49 AM
Two Valley university students say they're planning to walk out of class to protest immigration reform sometime next week.
Across the country, students have risked being suspended or otherwise punished for their civil disobedience.
We spoke to the national president of LULAC -Hector Flores- who urges students to find other ways to protest. He says his organization doesn't support action that would negatively impact their education.
"We would prefer that they stayed in school, and not go out. Because of what i said. I think we want to see as many kids finish high school and go to college so they can assume their rightful place and have the american dream," Hector Flores said.
Flores says he would like to see students find other forms of peaceful protest such as sending e-mails, letters or attending marches during the weekend.
LULAC opposes placing harsher penalties on illegal immigrants.
