Luxury cars confiscated from Sinaloa cartel in El Chapo's hometown

More than 30 luxury cars and motorcycles were confiscated from alleged members of organized crime groups in Culiacan, Sinaloa in a series of raids conducted by the Mexican government over the span of a week, according to reports from the Mexican Navy.

The vehicles include a Dodge Viper and a fully-loaded Jeep Sahara, to a Ducati and a various Mercedes Benz models. In addition, over a dozen military-grade weapons were also confiscated during the week-long raids in Culiacan, the capital of the Mexican state of Sinaloa that serves as the home base of the Sinaloa Cartel.

During one of the seizures, the Mexican Navy was engaged in a high-speed chase after the driver of a white vehicle attempted to run down security during the raid, the news release said.
Authorities managed to "contain the threat,” killing one and injuring the other passenger of the vehicle.
The raids were conducted with the help of Mexico’s special investigation unit for organized crime, SEIDO, and had been ongoing according to the release.
Recently, SEIDO and the Mexican Navy have conducted large seizures to make a statement to the Sinaloa population as they work to reduce the crime rate and increase state security despite being regarded as the birth place of the “largest and most powerful” drug cartel in Mexico.
Joaquin 'El Chapo' Guzman, one of the world's most wanted fugitives and leader of the Sinaloa Cartel, has several properties and family members in Culiacan and many believe he still hangs around the area after escaping a maximum security prison earlier this year.
