Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick has issued an order prohibiting contractors on state jobs from hiring illegal immigrants. Companies caught using undocumented workers will face fines and termination of their contracts.

The executive order went into effect immediately after the governor signed it Friday.

Illegal immigration became an issue during the campaign for governor after Patrick's Republican opponent, Kerry Healey, predicted he would coddle undocumented immigrants.

An immigrant and refugee advocate criticizes Patrick's action, saying it could lead to employers discriminating against legal immigrants.

Ali Noorani of the Massachusetts Immigrant and Refugee Advocacy Coalition says employers will feel they must act as immigration enforcement agents.

He also worries they won't hire anyone who looks or sounds like an immigrant.

they sould 'nt descriminate, but after the gun shyness wheres off they will be right back doing it with a new way of geting around the order. Contractors dont have a good resion to hire illegals They are geting to use to the extra money.
If they hire an Illegal they should be given a loss of all the money ticket. Then where will they be. and extra buck or no bucks hummm... i just made that one up I hope no one used it before an extra buck or no bucks...

Yeah, Shocked, but Patrick's brain doesn't seem to be pickled like Teddy's.

Don't let him fool you. Patrick is no good. In his limited time in office, he has already proven he can't hold up under public pressure. Just wait and see.
