Nine headless bodies found in Mexican border town

TIJUANA, Mexico (Reuters) - Nine decapitated bodies were discovered on Sunday in the Mexican border city of Tijuana, a hot spot in an increasingly gruesome war between drug cartels.

The bodies, along with their removed heads, had been left in a vacant lot beside a factory, witnesses and police told reporters.

Mexico is facing spiraling drug violence, especially along its border with the United States. Cities like Tijuana, south of San Diego, are seeing horrendous levels of crime, with bodies set on fire, cut up and dumped in acid and strung over highways.

Beheadings, kidnappings and daylight shootings have become common as vicious drug cartels fight over smuggling routes into the United States.

President Felipe Calderon has sent some 40,000 troops and federal police across Mexico to try to stop the killings. But despite major drug seizures and arrests, the killings continue.

Why doesn't the U.S. media give the violence in Mexico more coverage?

I have often wondered that myself. I wish I could email Ted Turner, that began 24-hour news with CNN (which many said would not last) to start a 24-hour terrorism channel.
There are so many things going on around the world, including neighboring countries, that could affect us we do not know about. It seems that unless the carnage is in the hundreds, it won't make worldwide news coverage. Unfortunately, there are too many pots across the world ready to boil over that are rarely, if ever reported.

More than 4,000 people have been killed by the drug gang war in Mexico so far this year and the U.S. media still doesn't give the situation adequate coverage.

TIJUANA, Mexico — The bodies of nine decapitated men have been found in a vacant lot in Tijuana, part of a wave of violence that has claimed at least 23 lives in less than 24 hours in this border city.

A Baja California state police statement says the bodies were found Sunday in a poor Tijuana neighborhood, across from San Diego. The heads were discovered in plastic bags near the bodies. Three police identification cards were also found in the bags.

Five more people were shot to death in four attacks throughout Tijuana on Sunday.

Police say nine people, including a 4-year-old, were killed in three separate attacks late Saturday.

Drug turf battles have fueled a wave of violence that has swept through Tijuana and other Mexican cities.
