Workplace enforcement was a logical early step to take in getting a grip on the illegal alien menace in the United States. While nine months into the Trump administration isn’t exactly early, there now appears to be a renewed enthusiasm at ICE for holding the anti-American employers accountable for their actions.
Speaking at a panel discussion at the Heritage Foundation on Tuesday, Immigration and Customs Enforcement Acting Director Thomas Homan revealed that the agency is initiating a policy of prioritizing workplace enforcement and investigations and sanctions against businesses knowingly employing illegals.
Homan told the group, “Unless you remove the magnets [for illegal immigration], as long as they think they can come here and get U.S. citizenship and not get removed, they’re going to keep coming. As long as they can come here and get a job, they’re going to try and come. So we are stepping up worksite enforcement.”
Homan conducted a study and determined the amount of time ICE agents were spending on workplace investigations and enforcement was inadequate and decided to increase those efforts by four to five fold. Not only will ICE be charging companies found employing illegals, they will also be conducting deportations of illegals apprehended at work sites.
Homan said, “We’re going to do it a little differently than we’ve done it. We’re going to prosecute the employers who knowingly hire illegal aliens, and we’re going to detain and remove the illegal alien workers.”
In a shift from the wink and nod of previous administrations, the Trump administration has already taken legal action against several companies for hiring illegal aliens and for abusing the guest worker visa in order to discriminate against Americans.
One such case involved Asplundh Tree Expert Co., which earlier this month pleaded guilty to an illegal alien employment scheme that cost them a cool $95 million dollars. That was the biggest penalty ever imposed on an immigration violator, but there’s likely to be many more on the way. The poultry operations of the Midwest and slaughter houses of the southwest and elsewhere are begging for an ICE visit.
Attorney General Sessions, in one of the few actions he’s taken since becoming Attorney General, filed a Civil Rights case against a Colorado company for hiring a foreign guest worker and denying Americans in the process, a case of discrimination against American workers on the basis of citizenship. Maybe he’ll work his nerve up to tackle a big fish like Hillary Clinton next.
Homan promised, “We’re taking work site enforcement very hard this year. We’ve already increased the number of inspections and worksite operations, you’re going to see that significantly increase this next fiscal year.”
A demagnetized America would force employers to hire Americans as would the threat of heavy fines. Finally, we’ve got an administration that puts the American people first, ahead of the lobbyists and good old boys.
