CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (AP) — A former manager at a kosher slaughterhouse in Iowa who’s indicted on charges of harboring illegal immigrants is fighting extradition from Israel, where he fled after an immigration raid in 2008.

Prosecutors are seeking the return of Hosam Amara so he can face charges in Iowa. Israeli authorities arrested him on March 31.

The Gazette in Cedar Rapids (Ex-Agriprocessors manager appeals extradition | TheGazette ) says U.S. Attorney Peter Deegan says Amara has appealed to the Israeli Supreme Court.

Prosecutors say Amara left for Israel after federal agents arrested nearly 400 illegal immigrants at the Agriprocessors Inc. meatpacking plant in Postville.
Another supervisor, Zeev Levi, also allegedly fled to Israel and hasn’t been apprehended.

Shalom Rubashkin, a former Agriprocessors’ vice president, was sentenced to 27 years in prison on financial fraud charges following the raid.
