SCHOHARIE — A Fulton man has been accused of attempting to use a fake social security card to obtain a state driver's license.

Sheriff's deputies said Abelino Mendoza, 43, was charged with felony counts of offering a false instrument for filing and criminal possession of a forged instrument after an investigation by sheriff's deputies and investigators from the state Department of Motor Vehicles.

Deputies said Mendoza was born in Mexico, but an investigation is continuing into his immigration status.

Mendonza was wrraigned in Schoharie Village Court and sent to the Schoharie County jail on $20,000 cash bail.

How was it the DMV was able to determine this social security card was fradulent, but yet thousands of business owners and corporations around this country cannot ?
