FALLBROOK ---- A man who allegedly attacked a U.S. Border Patrol agent during a traffic stop and fled into a nearby canyon was arrested after an hours-long search Sunday morning, authorities said.
The border patrol agent suffered no injuries in the 8:43 a.m. scuffle on Mission Road near Interstate 15, said Lt. Jim Walker of the San Diego County Sheriff's Department. The suspect, whose name was not released, dashed into a large nursery that bordered a canyon.
Sheriff's deputies joined the search, on the ground and in the department's helicopter, Walker said. A deputy spotted the suspect trying to run out of the canyon at about 10:20 a.m. and, after a short chase on foot, arrested him, Walker said.
The man was identified as a previously deported felon, Walker said.
