Man arrested during sexual assault
Aug 22, 2006 09:51 AM EDT
Fernando Egurrola-Gutierrez, a 26-year-old resident of Mexico, was arrested Saturday night after Police responded to reports of a home invasion.
Tucson Police say a dangerous man is off the streets and locked up in County Jail.
Fernando Egurrola-Gutierrez, a 26-year-old resident of Mexico, was arrested Saturday night after Police responded to reports of a home invasion.
Police arrived on the scene about two minutes after getting the call.
When they got there they say Gutierrez was on top of the female victim.
Sergeant Decio Hopffer told News 4, "We had to go hands-on with him. He did not immediately comply with our demands so we had to go hands-on to detain him."
After booking Gutierrez, Police say they found solid evidence linking him to another attempted sexual assault in the same area.
On July 16, a man fitting the same description as Gutierrez pulled a gun on two hair stylists at the Supercuts salon about two blocks away.
In that case, the attacker locked one of the women in a bathroom and attempted to assault her sexually.
The second stylist got away and when she left the building the opening door sounded a bell which spooked the attacker who took off running.
Police believe that man was Gutierrez and they say he was getting more brazen.
"He forced himself inside a bedroom before attempting sexual assault so he was getting more violent, more aggressive. There is no doubt in my mind that he would strike again," said Sgt. Hopffer.
Gutierrez was booked into the Pima County Jail on several charges including attempted sexual assault, kidnapping, armed robbery, aggravated assault and burglary.

Arizona Daily Star
Tucson, Arizona | Published: 08.22.2006
A man was arrested Saturday after he broke into a West Side home and attempted to sexually assault a 20-year-old woman, according to Tucson police.
Fernando Egurrola-Gutierrez, 26, is suspected of forcing his way into the home near West Speedway and North Grande Avenue while the victim, her 1-year-old son and her teenage sister barricaded themselves in a bedroom and called 911 about 10:40 p.m., according to a press release.
As they were talking, the intruder broke into the bedroom and tried to sexually assault the woman, police said.
When police arrived two minutes after receiving the call, they heard a woman screaming inside the house. They arrested the suspect after a short struggle. No one was harmed in the incident.
Detectives linked Egurrola-Gutierrez to another incident July 16, when he is suspected of pulling a handgun, demanding money and attempting to sexually assault an employee of the Supercuts in the 1300 block of West St. Mary's Road.
Egurrola-Gutierrez, who is from Mexico, was charged on suspicion of attempted sexual assault, kidnapping, armed robbery, aggravated assault and burglary and booked into the Pima County jail. His bond was set at $250,000.Support our FIGHT AGAINST illegal immigration & Amnesty by joining our E-mail Alerts at http://eepurl.com/cktGTn
