A man who is awaiting sentencing for what Commonwealth's Attorney Eric Olsen described as "one of the worst rapes ever" in Stafford County is now listed in court records as a victim in a major crime.
Roberto Carlos Flores Sibrian, 27, was one of two inmates at the Rappahannock Regional Jail who were badly beaten by another inmate in August, court records show.
Robert Walter Hunter, 41, of King George County was indicted this month by a Stafford grand jury on two counts of aggravated malicious wounding, a charge that carries a maximum penalty of life in prison.
Flores Sibrian will be facing the possibility of four life sentences plus 20 years when he is sentenced next month in Stafford Circuit Court. He was convicted of rape, abduction with the intent to defile and other charges for sexually assaulting a young King George woman after ramming his vehicle into hers as she drove east on State Route 3 in Stafford on Oct. 31, 2016.
The incident began about 3 a.m. near Sherwood Forest Farm Road in southern Stafford. The victim was on her way home from a party when her vehicle was struck.
The evidence shows she got out of her vehicle expecting to exchange insurance information when Flores Sibrian grabbed her and dragged her down an embankment. He then sexually assaulted her for at least 90 minutes.
He left behind DNA and a shirt that helped investigators eventually track him down at a work site in North Carolina, where he was arrested. Flores Sibrian, a native of El Salvador who is in the country illegally, told police he was drunk that night and didn't remember anything, but admitted that the shirt recovered was his.
Prosecutor George Elsasser said the jail incident in which Flores Sibrian was an alleged victim involved a dispute over a microwave that initially didn't involve him. Hunter reportedly cut the line and was confronted by fellow inmate James Carnagey.
The police report said Hunter attacked Carnagey, who was using a crutch, knocking him to the ground. He then used the crutch to pummel him.
Flores Sibrian tried to break up the assault and Hunter ended up using part of the broken crutch to beat and choke Flores Sibrian, Elsasser said.
