Man in the country illegally sentenced to 30 months in prison after being arrested in Ardmore

ARDMORE, Okla. (KXII) - A convicted sex offender deported nine times, but back in the U.S., is now headed to federal prison after he was arrested near Ardmore.

The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma said in a press release Victor Martinez Antonio, 52, was sentenced on Tuesday to 30 months in federal prison.

Sgt. Brice Woolly with Ardmore Police Department said they first got on Antonio's trail after responding to a domestic assault last fall where Antonio beat up a woman he was in a relationship with, bruising her arms and giving her a black eye.

After looking into the assault, police say they found he was also sex offender out of Texas and had failed to register.

Court records show Antonio was convicted of aggravated sexual assault on a child in Ellis County, TX in August 2005.

"So then that kind of amped up the investigation as to 'Why was he in Ardmore? Why was he not registering with us? Who was this guy? Why was he in Oklahoma, or even in the US?' eventually," Woolly said.

Police were able to arrest him about two weeks later at a park near Ardmore.

The U.S. Attorney's Office said since 1991, Antonio has entered the U.S. and been deported back to Mexico nine times.

The office said he would use a different name each time he crossed back into the US.

"People can do that for a short time," Woolly said. "But when they commit crimes, their fingerprints never change. Their DNA never changes and eventually it catches up to them as to who their true identity is."

Court records show Antonio spent a few months in the Carter County jail before going on trial at the federal level.

The U.S. Attorney's Office said after the 30 months in prison, he will be deported back to Mexico and face felony charges if he tries to enter the U.S. again.

United States Attorney Brian J. Kuester said in a press release,

"The defendant reentered the United States numerous times after having been removed. Following his most recent reentry, he committed crimes and was convicted in state court using an alias. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers determined his true identity and he was prosecuted in federal court. Enforcing immigration laws in these circumstances is one way ICE and this office can help state and local law enforcement agencies remove violent offenders from the communities they inhabit.”

"I'm just glad that, in this case, justice was served and we were able to get him behind bars so he doesn't offend against anyone else," Woolly said.
