DORR TOWSHIP -- A man fled a vehicle during a traffic stop, dashing into a field, after police discovered that he was wanted for a federal immigration violation.

The man, identified as being from El Salvador, fled the scene in Dorr Township after an Allegan County sheriff's deputy stopped a vehicle for speeding at about 5:40 p.m. Tuesday.

After getting information from everyone in the vehicle, the deputy discovered the man from El Salvador was wanted by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency.

A tracking dog was called and followed the man's trail for about two miles, but police did not locate the man.

Police say they know his identity.
