A Three Points man was sentenced yesterday to 22 years in state prison for torturing a Mexican illegal immigrant.

Pima County Superior Court Judge John Davis sentenced Hector Jesus Soria, 21, to 11 years on one kidnapping count and 12 years on another kidnapping count and ordered them served at the same time.

Davis then added 10 years for an aggravated assault conviction.

Pima County deputies said Soria pulled out two of the victim's teeth, cut him on the face and chest, pried his toenails with a screwdriver and threatened to castrate him.

The victim was found in November 2003 in the 15000 block of West Chumblers Road in the area about 20 miles west of Tucson. Another illegal immigrant found with the victim was not injured.

A federal grand jury indicted Soria and four others on charges of conspiring to harbor illegal immigrants for profit, harboring an illegal immigrant for profit and harboring an illegal immigrant for profit in a case involving serious injury.

Soria's co-defendants in the federal case are Barry Van Brocklin, Miguel Angel Cazarez Sr., Ramon Angel Navarro-Leon and Jesusita G. Guerrero. Soria and Van Brocklin also are charged with conspiracy to take someone hostage. The status of Soria's federal case was not available last night.

A conviction for conspiring to harbor illegal immigrants for profit carries a maximum penalty of 10 years, a $250,000 fine or both. A conviction for harboring an illegal immigrant for financial gain in a case with serious injury carries a maximum penalty of 20 years, a $250,000 fine or both.

Harboring an illegal immigrant for profit carries a maximum penalty of 10 years, a $250,000 fine or both. A conviction for conspiracy to take someone hostage carries a maximum penalty of life in prison, a $250,000 fine or both.
