A Mexican man wanted in the killing of an off-duty U.S. Border Patrol agent is now being held in Arizona.

The Cochise County Sheriff's Office says that 23-year-old Border Patrol Agent Jorge Salomon was visiting relatives in Mexico in February 2003 when he met four locals and went out with them for drinks.

When the four found out that Salomon was an agent, the sheriff's office says they brutally beat him to death.

The Mexican government arrested one of the men, but advised U.S. authorities that the other three likely were headed to the U.S., identifying one of them as 26-year-old Jose Arturo Arreola-Lopez.

In April, the sheriff's office discovered that Arreola-Lopez was being held in St. Paul, Minn. on a separate charge and arranged to take custody of him after he served time there.

Arreola-Lopez was booked into Cochise County jail Wednesday on a probation violation and will be taken to Mexico to answer for the murder charge after he serves his sentence.
