SAN DIEGO -- San Diego sheriff's detectives are conducting an extensive criminal investigation with the assistance of the FBI, U.S. Marshals, North County Gang Task Force and Mexican authorities, into the premeditated attempted murder of a San Marcos resident.

On December 18, 2004, an acquaintance of the victim, Jose Antonio Lopez Tejada, called the victim's residence and requested that the victim give him a ride to the airport in Tijuana because a family member was dying.

Tejada told the victim that he was waiting by the Blockbuster Video in San Marcos.

When the victim arrived, he noticed that another male, who introduced himself as "Nelson," (later identified as Gerardo Matadamas Gomez) accompanied Tejada. The trio then drove to Tijuana, Mexico, in the victim's vehicle.

Once in Tijuana, the suspects directed the victim through several city streets, causing the victim to lose his sense of direction. When the victim questioned the route, the suspects instructed him to stop the vehicle.

When the victim stopped the vehicle, he was shot repeatedly execution-style by both suspects. Believing that the victim was dead, both suspects left the scene.

The victim was found by a passerby and subsequently transported to the Red Cross Hospital. He was eventually transported back to the United States for treatment at UCSD.

The victim survived the shooting and was able to identify the two assailants.

Gerardo Matadamas Gomez, 30, is described as a Hispanic male with brown hair, 5 feet 6 inches tall, weighing 150 pounds. Gomez is an undocumented alien and is from Mexico. Gomez also goes by the first names of "Nelson" and "Perico."

Jose Antonio Lopez Tejada, 24, is described as a Hispanic male with brown hair, 5 feet 6 inches to 5 feet 8 inches tall, weighing 150 pounds. Tejada is an undocumented alien and is from Mexico.

Both suspects are pictured in the San Diego Sheriff's Department's Web site under "10 Most Wanted."

Both suspects should be considered armed and dangerous. The suspects could be in Southern California, Arizona or Texas.

Anyone with information regarding either of these suspects is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-888-580-TIPS.
