MANDAN, N.D. _ A man accused of inappropriately touching a woman who allowed him to live in her home has pleaded guilty to a felony charge, and his attorney says he could be deported.
Adolfo Ramirez, 47, pleaded guilty on Monday to Class A felony gross sexual imposition.
According to court documents, a Mandan woman and her husband allowed Ramirez to rent a room in their home after finding out he had nowhere else to stay. Ramirez is accused of inappropriately touching the woman in January after she fell asleep on the couch in the home.
Ramirez’s appointed defense attorney, Rob Quick, said he and Morton County Assistant State’s Attorney Brian Grosinger settled on a plea agreement of 10 years with seven years suspended and five years of supervised probation.
After Ramirez was arrested in the case, Mandan police said further investigation showed he is in the United States illegally and faces deportation. Ramirez moved to Mandan in late 2012 from the Chicago area. Quick said Ramirez likely will be deported after serving his sentence.
South Central District Judge Sonna Anderson said she will not decide whether to accept the plea agreement until she reviews a presentence investigation. If she does not accept the agreement, Ramirez can plead not guilty and go to trial.
