Man survives after being shot by two bandits

A wounded 34-year-old undocumented male was found Thursday by Border Patrol agents.

Lt. Raoul Rodriguez, Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Department public information officer, said that deputies received a call from Border Patrol at approximately 11 a.m. They had found the man at Milepost 17 on Arivaca Road.

Deputies said the wounded man walked for five hours from Milepost 15 on Highway 285 outside of Sasabe.

The man claimed to have been attacked by two men armed with handguns and dressed in black, they came out of the foliage, Rodriguez said. The victim was taken to University Medical Center in Tucson where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries and released. He was turned over to the Mexican Consulate.

In a separate incident, 10 undocumented immigrants were robbed at gunpoint in the Sasabe area on Thursday.

Rodriguez said the group had been traveling with a guide. They reached a predetermined area were turned over to a second guide. The second guide took their money and a wristwatch.

The immigrants waited and were picked up by an SUV. It was traveling north on Interstate 19 when it was intercepted by the Border Patrol at Kilometer 56.

On Wednesday, Aug, 22, the Mariposa Health Center old deputies that the results of a medical exam indicated that a 6-year-old boy may have been molested. An investigation reached the conclusion that no molestation occurred.

Deputies were notified by the Pima County Adult Probation Officer on Aug. 22 that Denancio Dominguez, 74, failed to register as a sex offender as required by law. Dominguez resides at the 300 block of Globo Court in Rio Rico.
