AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — The commander overseeing 1,000 National Guard troops being sent to the Rio Grande Valley says the open-ended mission is a first for the reserve military force.

Maj. Gen. John Nichols told lawmakers Tuesday that although the National Guard has been sent to the border twice since 2006, it has never faced such a potentially long-term deployment. Nichols has said they've planned to be on the border for a year.

Gov. Rick Perry last month announced the deployment. His orders came as the U.S. Border Patrol grappled with an overwhelming surge of unaccompanied children coming into Texas.

The deployment will cost the state upward of $3 million a week.

Perry has said the Guardsmen are necessary to help free up state troopers who are pursuing crime along the border.

If NM, AZ, and CA would deploy their NG it could lead to a difference made. AZ might be forced to, Brewer expects that this will make her state the "hot spot" again. NM is largely Hispanic, and CA has been part of the problem encouraging illegals so long, I doubt that they will do a deployment. The House essentially put a stamp of approval on border deployment of the NG, so unless the House gets backed down big time, the feds should not be able to get too noisy about it being bad ideas. It is expensive without feds funding.

Ninety days should give an indication of effectiveness.

CA., AZ. and N.M. built their border fence to keep this from happening.

Texas refused to allow a fence to be built.

Now they have to deal with the problem they created.

If only Texas had built a border fence.

. . . The Secure Fence Act of 2006 was passed by Congress and signed by President George W. Bush on October 26, 2006.
The government of Mexico and ministers of several Latin American countries have condemned the plans. Rick Perry, governor of Texas, also expressed his opposition saying that instead of closing the border it should be opened more and through technology support legal and safe migration. . .

    CA. San Ysidro Border

Deported migrants and others tried to rush U.S. Border Patrol agents just west of San Ysidro last Sunday, in hopes that some would get through to the U.S.

Deported migrants attempted a once-common tactic of rushing the border en masse on Sunday. But Border Patrol agents met them with tear gas and rubber bullets and forced them to turn back...
