OCEANSIDE —
A boat filled with $4 million worth of marijuana was found abandoned on an Oceanside beach Sunday, authorities said.

The boat, a 26-foot pleasure craft, was discovered beached and loaded with bundles of marijuana near St. Malo Beach around 11:30 a.m. Sunday.

A resident called authorities to report seeing the vessel come ashore with two passengers and saw the passengers run away, heading south on the beach, after the boat landed, said Border Patrol Agent Justin J. Castrejon.

The beached boat was searched and agents discovered several packages of marijuana hidden in the cabin of the vessel. The packages weighted nearly 1,080 pounds and had an estimated street value of $4.3 million.

The Border Patrol seized the boat and the drugs were turned over to the Maritime Task Force for further investigation.
