Mark Zuckerberg's FWD.us Takes Amnesty Road Show to Boston

Facebook co-founder Mark Zuckerberg's FWD.us group, formed to lobby for amnesty legislation, will host an event in Boston on Tuesday, presumably to discuss with policymakers the need for more foreign workers in the high-tech industry.

The “The Future of Talent" discussion will reportedly "focus on the changing face of the American workforce and how to keep the U.S. competitive in the larger global economy." According to BetaBoston.com, after the recent news of Democrat Massachusetts "Governor Deval Patrick pushing for a unique foreign worker visa program as part of his announcement to end non-competes in the state," some of the area's most influential thought leaders and policymakers are scheduled to be in attendance.

FWD.us has spent millions lobbying Congress--and enriching consultants from the permanent political class--in an attempt to get amnesty legislation and more high-tech HI-B visas, even though numerous studies have debunked the notion that there is a shortage of American workers.

The discussion comes days after GOP Conference Chair Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) said the Republican leadership will try to pass amnesty legislation by August. McMorris Rodgers made the comments on the day she met with Satya Nadella, the new CEO of Microsoft. Microsoft, along with Facebook and Google, has been a big player in trying to influence the amnesty debate to secure more visas and guest-worker permits for the tech industry.

The Congressional Budget Office has determined that amnesty legislation that would double or even triple the number of HI-B and other visas would lower the wages of American workers.
