May Day march creates dilemma for Hispanics

    EMILY C. RUIZ
    Globe Gazette

Pro-immigrant groups across the country are preparing to stage a series of marches May 1, pressing the White House and the Homeland Security Department to halt immigration raids and move forward on comprehensive immigration reform.

Chicago Sun-Times columnist Esther Cepeda has doubts: “The marches have become unproductive. They cause a yawn among news editors and reporters and create a backlash from anti-Hispanic forces.

Bingo. Only not anit-Hispanic. Anti those who have entered or stayed in our country illegally. The marches of '06 made me aware of this issue.

We'll see what the third round of marches bring. Last year the numbers were way down.

Pro-immigrant groups from throughout the United States met in Mexico City in November to form the First Parliament of Mexican Migrant Leaders Living in the U.S.A. Attracting minimal press attention, they formed the first national coordinating committee for the May Day marches. The initiating body consists of 46 members representing 23 states.

I hope they march back to their own countries demanding their rights where they belong and I take Janet Mushmind and the liberals with them.

Americans would be very happy and dancing in the streets.

GREAT IDEA! Any way to do it legally? Don't they have to have a reason to ask for ID?

    Why not?

I find it ironic that any of our government agencies have to worry about doing their LEGAL jobs, when it comes to those who are here illegally. Boggles the mind.

There are more sentences I could quote from the article but I'm sure you get the idea that this march is only about latinos. Then they wonder why the perception is that illegal aliens are latinos from mexico.
Got that right. I honestly can't think of a single time in which any other illegal, of non-hispanic decent, had the pro-illegal group out marching and protesting for them. It's ALWAYS Latino issues. Even in the big march....you didn't hear the hate talk from the non-hispanic illegals. I remember I think it was the group from China....they had their Chinese flag....but they carried it like a banner waist high during the march. You didn't see "Anglos go back to Europe" on signs or any other hate talk. Even when they panned the crowds.....there's a difference with people yelling who are standing up for themselves.....and another with the tangable hate. Didn't see the vulgar behavior from the other groups. To be honest when they tried to ride the coat-tails of the African-Americans.....I figured they might say something about the groups from Haiti caught and immediatly deported. But not a whisper. Dirt cookies and a trek through the ocean is hardly an easy ride. But no....they're the only ones who are poor, only ones having to learn English, only ones working hard for minimul pay....please. Many people who were a part of the original marches were there because of long wait times, years waiting for their families to join them here....people actually with legit reform issues. But as with everything it boiled down to just Latino rights and they just had the others tag along as their tokens to make them look fair and balanced. Even the "tolkens" knew they weren't concerned about them and never steped up again behind the Latino movement. Why hang out all day just listening to Latinos give speeches in Spanish?
