City weighs harder line on contractors hiring illegal immigrants

ARCADIA - City officials are considering adding language to future contracts that would amount to a largely symbolic stand against illegal immigrants.

The City Council unanimously voted Tuesday to draft language to potentially be inserted into future contracts, which would specifically require contractors working with the city to comply with immigration laws. The city could also reserve the right to ask contractors for documentation of their employees at any point.

The move would be mostly symbolic, as the city already requires contractors to comply with all state and federal laws. But Mayor Robert Harbicht passionately argued it was an "opportunity to make a statement" about illegal immigrants who are "choking this whole region."

The new language is to be drafted by the city attorney along with city staff, and will be brought back to council for a final decision at a later date.

Another small move in the right direction, little by little we take back America

Baby steps are fine esp in California. Arcadia is in LA County also.

Consider me proud of Arcadia for making this small attempt and I just worry what lawsuits will be coming their way for expressing Americanism on behalf of LEGALS.
