McCain: He urges path to legal status

McCain: He urges path to legal status

    By Peter Hecht

Republican presidential candidate Sen. John McCain joins Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger at a global competitiveness roundtable of California technology executives Thursday in Union City. Both McCain and Schwarzenegger called for a comprehensive immigration program.

UNION CITY – Arizona Sen. John McCain faced withering criticism from conservatives in Republican presidential primaries for backing a guest worker program and a path to citizenship for illegal immigrants.

But Thursday, McCain, the presumptive GOP nominee, joined Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger in calling for an immigration plan including visas to bring employees to California’s Silicon Valley and the state’s agricultural fields.

McCain’s broad immigration pitch – coming at a global competitiveness roundtable of California technology executives – stood out from a far more cautious tone he had adopted earlier in the primary season.

Asked by Silicon Valley panelists what he would do to grant more visas for skilled technology workers, McCain pointedly advocated the comprehensive immigration legislation he had backed with Democratic Sen. Edward Kennedy in Congress.

While calling Thursday for protecting America’s borders and national security and punishing employers who hire illegal immigrants, McCain advocated a humane approach that treats illegal workers as “God’s children.â€

    What a load of crap.

If all these people were made legal does that mean they would lose all the hand-outs?

The US is not responsible for all "God's children". Each government should take care of its own children!

He is soooooo going to lose the election.

[quote]Also Thursday, McCain issued an angry response after being assailed by Democratic presidential front-runner Barack Obama for failing to back a measure to increase financial support for veterans who pursue a college degree.

So John McCain is showing his true colors and is once again advocating mass amnesty for tens of millions of illegal aliens, pledging to make this the highest priority. He didn't even spout his usual "secure the border first" nonsense.

How long ago his speech at CPAC seems (in February) when he said this (after being booed BTW):

I ... have pledged that it would be among my highest priorities to secure our borders first, and only after we achieved widespread consensus that our borders are secure, would we address other aspects of the problem in a wa y that defends the rule of law and does not encourage another wave of illegal immigration.

Just found this in the National Review Online by Jim Geraghty. My reaction: yeah right (sarcasm intended). McCain will push for mass amnesty as soon as possible:

    JOHN MCCAIN

Team McCain: No Shift Away From Border Security First

I doubt this will mitigate the anger of bloggers like John Hawkins much, but Team McCain tells me there's been no change in his stance on immigration — secure the border first, deal with other aspects of illegal immigration once the border is secure. Recently, McCain made comments that seemed to suggest he was eager to get to the second part, which conservatives and border security types are understandably wary about.

“[i]Senator Kennedy and I tried very hard to get immigration reform, a comprehensive plan, through the Congress of the United States,â€

No, scottiemum. As a matter of fact, they will be entitled to MORE because they will have legal status. The handouts are based on income. Federal handouts are based on citizenship and income.

    McCain’s Immigration Insanity
    -zeezil

McCain has been campaigning all across the country with various cronies muttering about securing the border first and that he never really supported amnesty. McCain and Lieberman were on a PR campaign together in NH earlier in the year and lying through their teeth on McCain's immigration record. At a town hall meeting in the granite state, McCain speaks for a while uttering his gibberish about illegal immigration and the illegal's are god's children (he obviously believes that they are a special type of god’s children and deserve some kind of extra compassion), etc. Lieberman takes the mike and says..."To say John McCain ever supported amnesty for illegal immigrants is a lie..." This is extremely disturbing that both of these Senators would try to deceive and directly lie to people for the express purpose of garnering votes. You can view this for yourself in this video:

McCain is trying to run from his actions and record. He is intentionally distorting (I call it lying) the irrefutable fact that he was a supporter of amnesty by claiming he was never for amnesty. He was a main architect, contributor and proponent of the Comphrensive Immigration Reform bills (s. 1348 and s. 1639) of 2007 that were written in order to grant amnesty to illegal aliens. McCain was so deep into the content and language of these bills that they were often referred to as the Kennedy-McCain Immigration Reform bills.

McCain has consistently supported amnesty for illegal aliens since at least 2003 as reported by hotair.com from a Tuscon Citizen article…“McCain Pushes Amnesty, Guest-Worker Program,â€
