U.S. citizens among four youth found dead in van in Tijuana

TIJUANA — Authorities are investigating the deaths of four young people, including at least two U.S. citizens, whose bodies were found Saturday inside a van with California license plates.

The Baja California Attorney General's Office identified three of the victims as U.S. citizens: Brianna Hernandez Aguilera, 19; Oscar Jorge Garcia Cota, 23, and Luis Antonio Gamez, 21. But U.S. authorities have confirmed that only the first two were U.S. citizens. The fourth victim, Carmen Jimenez Ramos Chavez, 20, was a Mexican citizen, according to the Attorney General's Office.

The bodies, which showed signs of torture, were covered with blankets, said a statement from the Attorney General's Office. Their bodies were discovered Saturday. The maroon 1995 van was parked on a residential street in the Fraccionamiento Valle Dorado section in eastern Tijuana.

4 U.S. citizens found strangled in Tijuana

4 U.S. citizens found strangled in Tijuana

TIJUANA, Mexico (AP) — The bodies of four U.S. citizens were found strangled, beaten and stabbed in a van in this border city, two days after they reportedly left their Southern California homes for a night at the Mexican clubs, U.S. officials said Thursday.

The victims, ages 19 to 23 years old, were found tied up on Saturday, but their deaths were not reported earlier because they were under investigation, said Fermin Gomez, an assistant state prosecutor in Baja California.

U.S. consular officials in Tijuana said the victims — two men and two women from the San Diego and Chula Vista areas — were U.S. citizens. The state attorney general's office in Baja California said one of the women was Mexican.

Their deaths are the latest in a string of violence in Tijuana that authorities blame on a bloody turf war between drug cartels.

Bernard Gonzales, a spokesman for the Chula Vista Police Department, said a friend told the women's parents they were headed to nightclubs in Tijuana on Thursday night. They were reported missing the next day when they did not answer their cellphones.

Gomez said relatives of one of the victims told authorities they knew drug traffickers, and that one of the women had cocaine in her system.

The victims were Brianna Hernandez, 19; Carmen Jimena Ramos; Oscar Jorge Garcia, 23; and Luis Antonio Gamez III, 21, said Charles Smith, a spokesman for the U.S. consulate in Tijuana. Ramos was believed to be 20 years old, but her age had not been confirmed.

This is getting more and more disturbing. On the news tonight, they said there was blood dripping out of the van.

Haven't been following the story. Was this a drug deal gone sour?

Most of the people who go bar hoping are 17 to 20 because the legal drinking age is 18 in Mexico.
Many of them get used to going and keep going when they turn 21 or because some of their friends
aren't 21 yet and can't get into American clubs.
