FL Six Miami residents accused of breaking into car at mall

Six Miami residents accused of breaking into car at mall
By Naples Daily News staff report
    1:35 p.m., Friday, June 26, 2009

Naples police arrested six Miami residents Thursday after they say the group broke into a car parked at the Cheesecake Factory in the Coastland Center mall.

At about 4:30 p.m., Naples police Master Officer Steve Walden was patrolling the mall parking lot, at 1900 U.S. 41 N., when a concerned citizen flagged him down.

Reports said a woman told Walden she had seen the occupants of a red Chrysler minivan going through the parking lot, near the Cheesecake Factory, attempting to open car doors. She then gave Walden the vehicle description and license plate number.

Walden located the minivan moments later traveling through the mall parking lot near the Sears automotive center, reports say. He stopped the minivan and identified the driver as Jaime Alberto Monsalve, 37, 5331 SW 154 Place, Miami.

The report says Walden also noticed the group had several pieces of luggage in the rear of the minivan.

At about the same time, Naples police dispatch received a separate report of an auto burglary that had just occurred near the Cheesecake Factory. The reporters told responding officers that their luggage had been stolen from their vehicle while they were inside eating. There were signs of forced entry into their vehicle. They provided a description of the missing items, which closely matched the items Walden observed in the back of the minivan.

The victims were able to positively identify the luggage found in the minivan as their stolen property. All six occupants of the Chrysler minivan were placed under arrest and transported to the Naples police department. The victims were able to retrieve all of their stolen property, including two wallets, which still had cash in them.

Along with Monsalve, the other suspects were identified as Mao M Diaz-Torres, 34, 7726 Fontainebleau Blvd., No. 210, Miami; Tatiana Margarita Giorgiz De La Espriella, 33, no address listed; Emerson Paz-Villa, 21, 49 Florida Blvd., Miami; Omar Romero, 39, no address listed; and Jhonnathan Vargas, 24, 15078 SW 104 St., Apt 913, Miami. All six were charged with auto burglary, grand theft and criminal mischief. Paz-Villa was also charged with possession of cocaine.

The Collier County Sheriff’s Office ICE Task Force is assisting the Naples police in verifying the identity and immigration status of all six suspects.

This is an ongoing problem in the malls. They will not hit the one close to me as there are cameras all over and a strong police presence. Another thing those people like to do is shoplift expensie items and often get caught with thousands of dollars worth of merchandise. They are clever and even have a way of signalling each other if they think police are onto them. The women often wear ponytails and are the looks outs. What they do is undo the ponytail as a signal that they are being watched.

Naples and Ft. Myers wealthier communities have been hit so many times, including home robberies. That really started when Alligator Alley (I-75) was completed and made it easier to get from one coast to another. Spend a few hours driving over from Ft. Lauderdale, hit a few places and tear off back on the Alley.

Vortex the authorities are on to them. FHP (Florida Highway Patrol) are waiting for them there.

That doesn't stop them around here. There's a new strip mall that they commit armed robbery at and it's blocks from the police barn. They robbed the bank too. Brazen.

They robbed the subway by the police station by me last night but the guy got caught quickly. Many people think that the police stations have a lot of officers inside but in reality they only do at shift change. There may be a few detectives inside and an officer on desk duty but that is it most of the time. We had a woman who died in the Plantation Police Department parking lot because she thought there would be officers there. The poor woman was fleeing a man that would not leave her alone after they split up.
