Bill requires compliance with federal legislation

Counties and municipalities providing sanctuary for illegal immigrants could lose some funding from the state if a Carroll legislator’s bill passes.
Sen. Allan Kittleman, R-District 9, introduced legislation amending the state’s public safety article to require all counties and municipalities comply with federal immigration laws or lose some funding from the state for police agencies.
A hearing on Senate Bill 421 in front of the Senate Education Health and Environmental Affairs Committee is scheduled for 1 p.m. Wednesday.
Kittleman said one of the reasons behind the bill was the cost to taxpayers to provide education and emergency health care for people who are in the country illegally.
