Prince George's County police say a 15-year-old boy has died after he was stabbed while walking home from Parkdale High School in Riverdale.

Police were called to the 6000 block of Good Luck Road around 2:45 p.m.

Major Kevin Davis says a tan-colored car pulled up and the teen was stabbed during an alteration with a man who got out of the car. Friends of the teen found him and called 911.

"It's scary because no one's watching and because they know people ride the bus from our school, so they should have people watching what goes on at the bus stop," said one female student.

The teen was taken to Doctors Community Hospital with a stab wound to the chest and later died. His name is not being released, but he was a sophomore at Parkdale.

"He was a great person. He was a good friend to me," said Awet Gebermedhin.

County Public Schools spokesman John White says the stabbing took place about a quarter-mile from the school after all students had been dismissed and all buses had left the school. Any students who still were at the school were kept safely inside.

Many students believe the stabbing is gang-related and fear retaliation will come next. "The people that did it, will regret it," said one Hispanic student.

We always prepare for any potential retaliation. We activate internal resources we have and out strategies in place to best prevent them," said Kevin David with the Prince George's County Police Department.

The school will open as scheduled Thursday, but White says grief counselors and a crisis team will be on hand.
