Business coalition seeks immigration reform-aliens needed

    Business coalition seeks immigration reform
Says American industry depends on aliens
By Walter C. Jones | Morris News Service | Story updated at 10:29 PM on Friday, August 17, 2007

ATLANTA - A coalition of Georgia businesses hasn't let up its campaign for immigration legislation, though the issue bogged down in Congress.

The coalition of 21 individual businesses and trade associations, called Georgia Employers for Immigration Reform, argues that the state's economy depends on immigrant workers and that the jobs of native Georgians could be lost if federal law stops the flow of aliens. The group supported an immigration bill that stalled in the U.S. Senate on June 29.

And a video has been posted on YouTube by someone calling for a boycott against Pilgrim's Pride Corp., the state's largest chicken company and a leader in the coalition. ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sF5c-iOPkfw )

Still, coalition members are looking forward to another debate on the Senate floor.

"We've have a couple of skull sessions, and we continue to follow what the Congress is doing," said spokesman Jay Morgan. "We know that there are a lot of people who are having, shall we say, voter's remorse. They really didn't want the issue to die without a resolution."

To get the public on board, or at least dampen some criticism in this staunchly conservative state, the coalition also has run an ad in a Macon newspaper and on some radio stations.

But advocates for stricter immigration policies oppose the coalition, like Americans for Immigration Control.

"I hope they're not facilitating greedy employers who just want cheap labor," Immigration Control spokesman Phil Kent said of the coalition.

    Are we really ready?

It has been something I have been thinking would work for over a year now.

As each and every thing the government does turns out to be a sham and only helps the illegals - it just seems more important than ever to get together - target one industy.

If we just did not purhcase poultry products for a few months, most all the companies on that list would get the message. Who knows how long it would take - a few months 6 months.

We wouldn't have to keep a list - know what company - just don't buy poultry products. It would help Georgia - and the rest of the country.
