On Thursday, Fox News revealed that an Iranian-published book about suicide bombers was recently found in the Arizona desert: http://www.foxnews.com/us/2011/01/27/ir ... na-desert/

"A book celebrating suicide bombers has been found in the Arizona desert just north of the U.S.- Mexican border, authorities tell Fox News.

The book, "In Memory of Our Martyrs," was spotted Tuesday by a U.S. Border Patrol agent out of the Casa Grande substation who was patrolling a route known for smuggling illegal immigrants and drugs.

Published in Iran, it consists of short biographies of Islamic suicide bombers and other Islamic militants who died carrying out attacks."

As alarming as this is, it is sadly not surprising. Evidence of terrorists infiltrating our dangerously insecure southern border has persisted for years. It is an issue so pressing that even mainstream media sources have covered it. In 2004, The Los Angeles Times reported: http://articles.latimes.com/2004/sep/15 ... exterror15

"Despite extensive surveillance, the border remains porous because of the stretches of desert it crosses and Mexico's established smuggling networks. Some Mexican cities, including Tijuana, have sizable Arab populations, giving rise to a recent history of illegal transit of Middle Easterners across the border....

...Of all the leads about the smuggling of potential terrorists from Mexico into the United States, the most intriguing may be the case of a young Lebanese man who was dropped off at a Chula Vista hospital in June 2002.

The man, near death, showed signs of radiation poisoning, suggesting work with a radiological "dirty bomb. "In the end, the radiation symptoms were discounted and the man died of undetermined causes. But the case led to the arrest of the owner of a Lebanese restaurant in Tijuana who last year was convicted of operating a smuggling ring, in league with a Mexican diplomat based in Lebanon. U.S. officials estimated that he arranged for the illegal entry of 80 to 200 Arabs into the United States over a period of months."

In 2005, The Boston Globe revealed that an increasing number of illegal immigrants from terrorist-harboring nations were simply released due to lack of detention space: http://www.boston.com/news/nation/artic ... st_border/

"Unlike undocumented Mexicans, most of whom are quickly returned to their country after they are arrested, almost all non-Mexicans are charged and released in the United States if they do not have a criminal record and are not deemed a security threat. But ...few of the immigrants show up to face charges that they entered the country illegally.

When their names are called, 98 percent of all undocumented aliens ordered to appear at Harlingen Immigration Court [in Texas] do not answer. They are weeks into their new lives in all corners of the United States.

The no-show rate, the highest of those for all 53 immigration courts in the country, has deteriorated as undocumented, non-Mexican immigrants have been crossing the border in exponentially increasing numbers, many from known terrorist breeding grounds such as Pakistan."

And in 2009, an ABC News exclusive detailed the danger of terrorists entering the United States by way of corrupt border officials: http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/corrupt- ... id=8654516

"The FBI fears the worst case scenario: Illegal immigrants allowed in by corrupt border officials could be terrorists.

Statistics show there may be good reason for concern. The illegal immigrants caught at the Mexican border are not just from Central and South America, but literally from around the world.

In the last two years, the government says 2,285 illegal immigrants have been caught coming from China, nearly 1,000 from Europe, and hundreds from nations where terrorism is a major concern -- 80 from Pakistan, 10 from Afghanistan, 36 from Somalia, 19 from Yemen, 25 from Iraq, and 26 from Iran. The FBI worries the border could be the gateway for terrorists who could enter the U.S. without leaving a clue."

This time, the infiltrating enemy may indeed have left behind a clue. But don't expect Washington to do anything about it. It has been nearly ten years since the worst terrorist attack on American soil and jihadists worldwide still have 24/7 access to our country. To suppose that somehow this will not lead to devastating consequences in the future is the most desperate form of foolish optimism.
