In response to the column by Ruben Navarrette ("Major thing illegal immigration does create: 'irrational' action," Dec. 27), I believe the immigrant situation in this country was spawned by greed of some of our employers.

Searching for lower costs and more profits, many companies have hung out the welcome mat for Hispanic workers, not caring if they're legal or not.

Many American employees complain about the loss of jobs, and how the immigrants seem to "just appear" for work, or "just disappear" at the slightest sign of investigation. Yet companies still clamor to employ them, since many are willing to work for less pay, sometimes done "off-the-books."

What really steams me is that, in the past, immigrants were guided into our system, to become Americans and contribute to our economy. These do not. They have their own communities, stores, churches and other facilities. They don't fraternize with us, nor learn to speak English â€â€
