PA-Senate approves bill denying public aid to illegals

State Senate approves bill denying public aid to illegal immigrants
    Wednesday April 01, 2009, 12:08 PM

Illegal immigrants in Pennsylvania would be denied public benefits under a bill approved by the state Senate. The Senate approved the measure 41-9 on Wednesday and sent it to the House.
The legislation would require anyone seeking public benefits to show valid, government-issued identification. They also would have to provide a sworn statement that they are U.S. citizens or legal permanent residents. The bill would exempt children younger than 18, anyone eligible for Medicare and anyone receiving Supplemental Security Income or Social Security disability income.

The Senate approved a similar bill last year, but it died in the House.

Gov. Ed Rendell and other critics have said there's no proof illegal immigrants have received benefits and that the bill would hurt legal residents who have no ID.

Then they should get their ID or lose benefits, no excuses!

Well duh there's no "proof".....not when you haven't asked anybody to prove that they're here legally in order to receive them

As for hurting those with no ID.......save it for somebody who will believe that line of BS Rendell because there's not one move which any citizen can make in this country WITHOUT an ID.

I get so sick and tired of hearing this same, tired crap........just once I'd like to see specifics on this mystery population of American citizens who, we're told, don't have an ID and will suffer hardship under laws requiring them as some "unintended consequence" of "targeting" illegal aliens

While the bill is successful in addressing a part of the problem, I am not happy about all the exceptions.
And even my 89-year-old mother, who never drove a day in her life has taken the time to get an official photo ID issued by the DMV. And many businesses around here ask for photo ID before they accept a credit card.

I guess Gov. Ed Rendell missed the national news coverage about Obama's illegal alien aunt living off government welfare in Boston?

Does Rendell know how stupid and uninformed his comments look next to this other major story in the media?

I am sure if people are really legal in this country they would have their proof with them in form of social security numbers or valid drivers license or birth certificate. I do not see any reason why a lawful citizen would not have some sort of proof.

As far as no proof of illegals COLLECTING BENEFITS has got to be a load of BS. Otherwise why would a BILL EVER BEEN CREATED?

    Exactly!!

Just try to do ANYTHING in this country these days without an ID and see how far you get.

    Not very, that's for sure.

And what gets me about how stupid this argument is that if it was possible to survive and function, at all, in the US without an ID, there would not be such a fuss kicked up over martriculas, allowing illegals to obtain driver's licernses and state ID, etc.

So why they keep pulling this rabbit out of it's hat as if it's a legitimate concern makes no sense at all.

Don't worry so much Gov. Ed Rendell! Legal citizens will have no problems securing identification in order to receive benefits! Most likely, neither will the illegal invaders!

You beloved illegals will still find away to steal benefits, either through their anchor babies or directly themselves!

However, atleast this legislation is a good start and will make those illegals who are intent on cheating our system, work a little harder to get the same benefits that were before just handed to them.

So how is going to work for the ANCHOR BABIES?

I have heard in North Carolina that the illegal parents income was not even gathered when giving anchor babies low income housing.

There is an article here in archive that covers this in North Carolina.
